Title
To Recognize October 15, 2007 as Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in the City of Columbus.
Body
WHEREAS, Columbus Public Health offers comprehensive HIV education and testing throughout the year in targeted areas and events frequented by the Latino population. These HIV educational sessions are offered to individuals or in groups as needed or requested; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Public Health has a long history of working with Latino agencies, providing education and testing at local events such as LCA Latino Festival, Latino AIDS Awareness Day, Festival Latino and several neighborhood events and carnivals; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics comprise 3% of persons known to be living with HIV/ AIDS in Franklin County while 3% of Franklin County residents are Hispanic. Hispanic citizens comprise 5% of persons known to be living with HIV/ AIDS in Ohio while only 2.3% of Ohioans are Hispanic; and
WHEREAS, numerous past and present Columbus Public Health employees have been honored by Latino organizations for their service and dedication to the health and well being of the Columbus Latino population; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That October 15, 2007 be recognized as Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in the City of Columbus.
