To Honor Sawaun Blakely's Contributions to HIV/AIDS Awareness and Recognize December 1st as World AIDS Day

WHEREAS, World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, serves as a global reminder of the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and a time to honor those impacted this serious disease; and,
WHEREAS, Sawaun Blakely, a visionary local leader and steadfast advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, has made significant contributions to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention through his innovative work with Equitas Health and the Shades of Red event; and,
WHEREAS, Sawaun Blakely's unwavering dedication to blending public health expertise with his passion for fashion has culminated in the creation of Shades of Red, a groundbreaking platform and experience that utilizes fashion and art to raise awareness, combat stigma, and promote HIV education and prevention; and,
WHEREAS, Shades of Red, founded by Sawaun Blakely, utilizes fashion and art as powerful tools to combat stigma, encourage testing, and foster open dialogue about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment; and,
WHEREAS, the 3rd annual Shades of Red event showcases Sawaun Blakely's unwavering commitment to community engagement and illustrates his unique ability to inspire positive change through creative expression and collaboration; and,
WHEREAS, Sawaun Blakely's leadership and advocacy have made a significant impact on increasing awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS, contributing to a more informed and compassionate community;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THIS COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: hereby recognizes and honors Sawaun Blakely for his outstanding leadership, creativity, and dedication to the fight against HIV/AIDS and recognizes December 1st as World AIDS Day.
