Title

To recognize and celebrate ProMusica Columbus Chamber Orchestra's 30^th anniversary season.

Body

WHEREAS, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1978 to present the best of traditional chamber orchestra repertoire and to promote the understanding and appreciation of contemporary American music. Since 1998, ProMusica has served as the resident orchestra of the historic Southern Theatre; and

WHEREAS, under the direction of Co-Founder and Music Director, Timothy Russell, ProMusica has commissioned more than 43 new works and has presented 97 premieres. In 2007-2008 ProMusica presented two world premieres, including works by Conrad Tao and Lera Auerbach. The 2008-2009 Season will feature commissions and world premieres by Conrad Tao, J. Ralph, and Mark O'Connor; and

WHEREAS, the orchestra has won eight awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers for Adventurous Programming. Other awards include those from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Columbus Jewish Foundation. Music Director Timothy Russell has been nominated for two Grammy awards and in 2006 was the recipient of the Ohioana Library Pegasus Award; and

WHEREAS, the organization has a history of outstanding musical performances and educational programs that are award winning and critically acclaimed. ProMusica is also committed to establishing a partnership with the community in order to understand and fulfill the community's needs for a variety of entertaining and enlightening musical performances and educational experiences; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CONCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That we do hereby congratulate the ProMusica Columbus Chamber Orchestra on celebrating its 30^th anniversary season and encourage the community to commemorate this event by attending the opening night performance at the Southern Theatre at 7:00 p.m. on October 5^th, 2008.
