To commemorate the Ohio Social Action 2008 Voting Rights Rally sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated taking place on Saturday, November 1, 2008.

WHEREAS, the Ohio Social Action 2008 Voting Rights Rally, by showcasing the importance of Ohio in the fabric of the American democracy and helping to shape this electoral process, aims to reflect on the vision and aspirations of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc founders in their dedication to providing assistance and support in local communities; and
WHEREAS, the theme for this year's Ohio Social Action 2008 Voting Rights Rally is "Your Right to Choose-Get Out The Vote Ohio"; and
WHEREAS, the Rally will focus on the "I Promise to Vote" campaign and feature a special dedication in honor of the late Congresswoman, the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones; now, therefore
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded by twenty-two collegiate women on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913 and has an international membership of more than 250,000 predominantly Black college-educated women whose purpose is to provide quality public service through effective programs in local communities throughout the world; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we do hereby commemorate the Ohio Social Action 2008 Voting Rights Rally sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and encourage the community to participate in this event taking place on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
