To acknowledge and congratulate the City of Columbus' Keep Columbus Beautiful program for winning two national awards from Keep America Beautiful at its 52nd National Conference.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus allocates public resources to aid in the growth, development and protection of Columbus' neighborhoods citywide; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus is promoting and encouraging environmental stewardship through the "Get Green, Columbus!" initiative; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes, encourages and works closely with area and neighborhood organizations citywide - from official area commissions to neighborhood block watches; and
WHEREAS, Keep Columbus Beautiful, a unique arm of the Refuse Collection Division in the Public Service Department, works with as many as 400 community organizations and their 10,000-plus volunteers each year to achieve its mission of promoting and coordinating litter cleanups, graffiti prevention, recycling and beautification projects citywide; and
WHEREAS, Keep Columbus Beautiful has also developed working relationships with community partners, including local businesses, large corporations and professional sports organizations, to fulfill its mission objectives; and
WHEREAS, the community improvement program won a coveted First Place Affiliate Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership in its community, and also was named first in the nation for beautification and community improvement efforts among government-run programs, and further, Keep Columbus Beautiful is considered a role model in the Keep America Beautiful national network of affiliates, having consistently demonstrated excellence in programming for more than 20 years; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
