To honor the work of the Council on American-Islamic Relations for their continued efforts in leading the way for justice and mutual understanding.
 
 
Body
WHEREAS, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio), is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group and an instrumental agent in reminding the People of Columbus of the importance of this month to all Ohioans; and
 
WHEREAS, CAIR-Ohio is dedicated to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding; and
 
WHEREAS, Columbus is proud to be considered home for more than 40,000 people of Muslim faith, people who believe in a faith that teaches peace and respect for others;
 
WHEREAS, the diverse people of Muslim faith who live in Columbus contribute greatly to the enrichment of all aspects of life in the City of Columbus, State of Ohio and the United States of America, through science, religion, governmental service, education, art, business and industry; and
 
WHEREAS, Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar, where Muslims are required to fast during this month; and
 
WHEREAS, Ramadan is a month of giving, self-purification, and is one of the Five Pillars of the religion of Islam and one of the highest forms of Islamic worship; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That the Columbus City Council recognizes Ramadan as a month of special assistance to the needy, and encourages citizens of the City of Columbus to recognize the dedication and service of Muslims as an important part of the fabric of religious pluralism which enriches us all.
