To proclaim Saturday, April 17, 2004 and Sunday April 18, 2004 as the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo weekend in the City of Columbus.

WHEREAS, the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo is celebrating its 20th season anniversary and is the nation's only touring Black Rodeo; and
WHEREAS, the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo has been a powerful tool in educating people on the experiences and cultural pride associated with the contributions of Black Cowboys in developing the West; and
WHEREAS, Bill Pickett, born in 1870, was a famous black cowboy best known for creating "Bull Dogging," a move in which he rode along side a steer, jumped onto its shoulders and brought the steer down by digging his feet into the ground and biting the steers lip; and
WHEREAS, the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo promises to be a memorable action-packed weekend for the whole family to enjoy; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby welcome the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo to the City of Columbus on this 18th day of April, 2004.
