Title
To congratulate the Hilliard Davidson High School Renaissance Program, recipient of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, recognizing students who have voluntarily given their time to help others in the community.
Body
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business, labor leaders, and student volunteers who have given outstanding service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award is given to a student or group of students who have voluntarily given their time to help others in the community; and
WHEREAS, one of this year's recipients of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, the Hilliard Davidson High School Renaissance Program, is considered a model program nationwide, putting together various school and community projects, including a 9-11 appreciation by honoring local fire fighters and police; keeping a memorial garden and raising money for the victim's relief fund; new student breakfasts; students-of-the-month; "Did You Know" posters; 6th grade tutoring; bus driver appreciation; teacher appreciation; senior citizen lunch and holiday parties; orchestra concerts at nursing homes; Christmas drives for needy children; collections for the Humane Society; donations for troops; Children's Hospital collections; Tsunami victim assistance; and Ronald McDonald House pop tab collections; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, the Hilliard Davidson High School Renaissance Program, whose students have voluntarily given their time to help others, making a significant contribution to Central Ohio.
