To honor and recognize May 2011 as Community Action Month in Columbus.

WHEREAS, Ohio's Community Action Agencies were created when the Economic Opportunity Act was signed in 1964; and
WHEREAS, Community Action has helped residents of Columbus become and stay self-sufficient over its 45 year history; and
WHEREAS, IMPACT Community Action has made an essential contribution to individuals and families in Columbus by providing them with innovative and cost-effective programs; and
WHEREAS, IMPACT Community Action has provided critical services to most vulnerable citizens in the areas of Home Energy Assistance, Workforce Development, Home Weatherization, Support of Self-Sufficiency Services, Financial Literacy, Earned Income tax Credit Clinics and Mobile Medical Services; and
WHEREAS, IMPACT Community Action regularly engages in economic development and job creation as ways of moving individuals and communities toward prosperity; and
WHEREAS, IMPACT Community Action meets ongoing needs for jobs that pay well and provide benefits; lifelong learning opportunities; affordable housing; reliable transportation and stable social and household safety nets; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we do hereby recognize the month of May 2011 as Community Action Month in Columbus and thank IMPACT Community Action for their ongoing efforts to help families achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
