To recognize the week of September 14-20, 2008 as National Adult Day Care Week in the City of Columbus.
 
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, adult day care centers offer comprehensive personal, medical, and therapeutic assistance to older people and to the handicapped, thus helping them to maintain a great degree of independence; and
 
WHEREAS,  the centers also offer support for families who are willing to care for their loved ones at home, but who welcome the opportunities the centers afford for wider human contacts among people often consigned to loneliness; and
 
WHEREAS, these centers and give individuals the ability to maintain personal independence, lead meaningful lives, find friends and learn skills; and
 
WHEREAS, day care centers enable individuals to obtain the care they need without being forced to live in institutions, and they offer needed respite to families whose infirmed relatives live with them; and
 
WHEREAS, adult day care centers and their dedicated professional staffs provide community-based quality adult day health care by serving many health maintenance functions, provide vital medical care, including medication monitoring, therapies, and health education, and provide invaluable opportunities for social interaction to disabled elderly; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby recognize September 14-20, 2008 as National Adult Day Care Week in the City of Columbus and recognizes these centers for offering such important services.
