To Congratulate Dominic Mendiola as the 2025 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Scout Award Recipient.
Body
WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare, and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, Dominic began his work in the labor movement at a young age, working in the agricultural industry. The son of farmers, his parents taught him the value of hard work; and
WHEREAS, Dominic worked for the Fight for Fifteen campaign, organizing low-income workers across Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky to advocate for raising the minimum wage; and
WHEREAS, Prior to and through the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dominic worked for the Ohio Nurses Association, helping frontline workers fight for workplace safety and wages; and
WHEREAS, Since 2022 Dominic has worked at the Ohio Education Association, mobilizing educators to support fair school funding through levy campaigns and political advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Dominic is an Eagle Scout, and scout volunteer with Troop 7546, one of the first all-female scout troops in the BSA. He is a proud stepdad of three, and proud dad of his very opinionated rescue cat, Mr. McElroy Mittens; now, therefore,
