To honor and celebrate October 28th as Mauritania Day in the City of Columbus

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, immigrants, migrants, and refugees are the number one factor behind population growth in Columbus; and

 

WHEREAS, approximately 8,000 Mauritanians are currently residing in the United States, about half of whom are living in Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mauritanian Network for Human Rights has and continues to not only support new Mauritanians but also connect local Mauritanians to their elected officials in Columbus; and

 

WHEREAS, Columbus is a welcoming city and recognizes the positive economic and cultural impact of our current and new Mauritanian neighbors; and

 

WHERE, it is an honor that so many in the Mauritanian community  have chosen to call Columbus home after seeking asylum and refuge from their country of origin; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does declare October 28th as Mauritania Day in the City of Columbus.
