Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Columbus Health Department has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $165,000.00 in grant money to fund the Peer Advocate for Immunization Program.
The intent of the Peer Advocate for Immunization Program is to improve and extend immunization outreach to underserved urban neighborhoods, by providing staff that are from and/or represent the neighborhoods to help parents and caregivers protect young children from vaccine preventable infectious diseases.
This grant is for the period July 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011.
Emergency action is requested to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: This program is entirely funded by the Ohio Department of Health. This grant will not generate revenue or require a City match.

To authorize and direct the Columbus Health Department to accept a grant from the Ohio Department of Health in the amount of $165,000.00 for the Peer Advocate for Immunization Program; to authorize the appropriation of $165,000.00 from the unappropriated balance of the Health Department Grants Fund; and to declare an emergency. WHEREAS, $165,000.00 in grant funds have been made available through the Ohio Department of Health for the Peer Advocate for Immunization Program; and,
WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,
