Explanation
Background:
The Ohio Public Works Commission awarded a grant to the Recreation and Parks Department in the amount of $340,000.00 as part of the Clean Ohio Grant Program. The Clean Ohio Grant program preserves valuable greenspace in communities and aids sustainability The grant will be used to acquire property in the Alum Creek corridor, to preserve high quality habitat, Category 3 delineated wetlands and preserve the natural buffer in the floodplain to aid in flood abatement. This parcel, Macedonia Church Site CCDAJ, is adjacent to parkland and is a continuation of the Alum Creek corridor. Letters of support were submitted by the Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT) watershed group and the Central Ohio Greenways Committee. Recreation and Parks is part of the Central Ohio Greenways program and preserving river corridor is a priority for this group. The grant award is for $340,000.00 and the City of Columbus' share is $120,000.00.
Fiscal Impact: The Recreation and Parks Grant Fund unappropriated balance will be reduced by $340,000.00.
