To celebrate the 2024 Pride Month and Annual Pride Festival and March, “Live Out Loud”

WHEREAS, June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month to recognize those who took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, led by transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson; and
WHEREAS, each year, Columbus and cities around the world host annual Pride Marches and festivals to commemorate liberation for LGBTQIA+ individuals; and
WHEREAS, the organization Stonewall Columbus started hosting its annual Pride March and Festival in 1981, with it typically generating over 700,000 visitors to Columbus and Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Pride Month and annual Pride Marches are celebrations of equality and the commitment to uplifting LGBTQIA+ identities; and
WHEREAS, Columbus’s 2024 Pride March and Festival, “Live Out Loud,” is a celebration of LGBTQIA+ identities and reinforces Columbus’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby celebrates the 2024 LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and the 2024 Stonewall Columbus Pride March as these events recognize Columbus’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and uplifting LGBTQIA+ identities within the community.
