To honor, recognize and celebrate the Brookhaven Bearcats for winning the first-ever city league title in football
Body
WHEREAS, this Council honors and recognizes the Brookhaven Bearcats football team and coaching staff for winning the City League's first Division II state football championship; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, December 3, 2004, this extraordinary team defeated defending champion Avon Lake in Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, with a 42-21 win before a crowd of 7,977; and,
WHEREAS, the Brookhaven Bearcats became the first team from the Columbus City League to win a title since the playoffs began in 1972; and,
WHEREAS, we salute Coach Tom Blake and his coaching staff; Jeremy Froelich, Athletic Director; and Principal Robert Murphy for all their hard work and dedication to the success of these young people; and,
WHEREAS, Brookhaven played at full speed the entire game; relying on the skills, techniques and natural talents they developed to lead them to a state title. Their opponent in the state final, the Shoremen of Avon Lake, entered the contest on a 29 game winning streak, so they were far from being pushovers. Avon Lake was a team accustomed to winning football games, and at times dominating their opponents; who were no match for Brookhaven; and,
WHEREAS, Congratulations are in order for the Brookhaven football program, their school and of course their supporters who followed them every step of the way. This team's accomplishment should serve as inspiration to other City League teams in the future that this can be done; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we honor, recognize and celebrate the Brookhaven Bearcats for winning the first-ever City League title in football.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that a copy of this Resolution be presented to the Brookhaven High School team and coaching staff as a token of our esteem.
