Explanation
Background:
Capital expenditures are required for the renovation of the Department of Technology's data center. This renovation has two-phases, with phase I being design and phase II being construction. This ordinance authorizes the Director of the Department of Technology to enter into a design services contract with Technology Site Planners. Technology Site Planners was selected as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, through an informal bid process, from a list of architectural and engineering contractors obtained with the assistance of Facilities Management. For phase I, Technology Site Planners will provide architectural design and deliver bid specifications that include physical layout, HVAC, electricity, building permit and any other related construction need. Legislation for phase II will be submitted in September and construction is expected for completion by the end of December.
The renovation project will enable DoT Operations to consolidate staff, equipment and services to a single location. This consolidation will result in more efficient utilization of staff and improve the quality of service.
This ordinance authorizes the expenditure of $17,900.00 from within the Department of Technology, information service capital fund to pay for phase I of this project.
Fiscal Impact: Capital funds for this acquisition have been identified within the 2004 Information Service Bond Sale per ordinance 1185-2004, passed by City Council on June 24, 2004, to accomplish the facility renovation project. The total expenditure for phase I, of the facility renovation, is $17,900.00.
Emergency: Emergency action is requested to ensure that this project moves forward as soon as possible so that construction can be completed by December 31, 2004
