In support of a comprehensive study of City of Columbus tax incentives utilized to protect tax dollars and to encourage smart and sustainable growth in all our neighborhoods.

WHEREAS, given the steep population increases projected in Columbus over the next 35 years, it is a paramount priority to invest tax dollars in ways that leverage smart and sustainable growth, while protecting public funds and generating the maximum benefit for residents and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, public-private partnerships and tax incentives are critical public tools to leverage the private investment that revitalizes neighborhoods and encourages economic development; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus has a successful history of utilizing public-private partnerships in neighborhoods throughout the city; and
WHEREAS, in order to compete in regional, national, and global markets, the City of Columbus benefits greatly from the continued use of tax incentives and other tools to attract businesses, skilled workers, and quality jobs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus Department of Development plans to undertake a comprehensive study of the tax incentives it utilizes; and
WHEREAS, this comprehensive study will help Mayor Andrew J. Ginther, Department of Development Director Steven R. Schoeny, and Columbus City Council to utilize tax dollars in the most strategic and efficient manner possible; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council supports the undertaking of a comprehensive study of the tax incentives utilized by the Department of Development on behalf of the City of Columbus, and it commits to reviewing the study’s findings with the residents of Columbus.
