Explanation

Background

This ordinance will authorize and direct the Director of Recreation and Parks to enter into contract for the operation of the 2007 Summer Food service program.

The contract will be awarded to the Columbus Public Schools Food Service in compliance with Section 329.02 of Columbus City Codes.

The Summer Food Service Program Grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Ohio Department of Education. The program provides nutritionally balanced breakfasts and lunches to needy children during the summer months. Approximately 100,000 breakfasts and 300,000 lunches will be served through this program at 157 sites.

Emergency legislation is required so the contract can be in place for the beginning of this program on June 11, 2007. Grant confirmation was received on , from the Ohio Department of Education.

Fiscal Impact

$1,000,000 is required and budgeted in the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund to meet the financial obligation of this contract.

WHEREAS, the contract for the 2007 Summer Food Service program will be awarded in compliance with Section 329.02 of the Columbus City Codes; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to enter into said contract so payment can be made in a timely manner and the program can begin June 11, 2007; now, therefore
