Explanation

Background:-

An application is being submitted to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Real Estate and Land Management, for funding for the development and improvement at park facilities under the Natureworks program fund. The application is for $84,750.00 and will fund improvements at Big Run Park located on the southwest corner of Columbus. The proposed improvements include installation of two 6-foot wide crushed limestone walking paths to increase access and recreational opportunities for the community.

The required local match of $16,950.00 will be provided from the Recreation and Parks Capital Improvement Program dollars.

This is a State grant program that requires the project to be completed in three years.-Emergency legislation is requested so the legislation can be included in the grant application process.

Fiscal Impact: -

$84,750.00 in grant funding is being applied for and requested for Big Run Park Improvements.

WHEREAS, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Real Estate and Land Management, is accepting grant applications for funding under the Nature Works Program; and

WHEREAS, the Recreation and Parks Department wishes to apply for said funding for improvements at Big Run Park; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to apply for said grant for the preservation of public health, peace, property and safety; now, therefore
