To Congratulate the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation on the occasion of its establishment and formal launch date of September 7, 2005.
Body
WHEREAS, nearly 30, 000 Americans commit suicide each year; and
WHEREAS, on average 1,149 Ohioans commit suicide each year; and suicide is the 11th leading cause of death among all age groups for Ohioans; and
WHEREAS, suicide is a public health issue impacting the citizens of all Ohio communities and is preventable through timely intervention and appropriate treatment; and
WHEREAS, Ohio's communities are in need of resources, information, effective intervention strategies, training and professional development for local suicide prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation is being organized and its mission is to promote suicide prevention as a public health issue and advance evidence-based awareness, intervention and methodology strategies which will support all Ohio-based suicide prevention activities and will strive to eliminate stigma and increase help-seeking behavior for all Ohioans; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we do hereby recognize, support and congratulate the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation on the occasion of its establishment and formal launch date of September 7, 2005.
