2004 BYRNE Telecommunications Harassment Investigative Unit Grant
Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit. These funds shall be used to provide for continued funding for the Telecommunications Harassment Investigative Unit. This unit works together with current Intake, Domestic Violence and Prosecution sections of the City Attorney's Office as well as with the Columbus Division of Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office to investigate and prosecute incidences of harassment via the internet, e-mail, chat rooms, faxes and message boards. This ordinance will further authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the grant award.

2003-DG-E-B515-Byrne Telecommunications Harassment Investigative Unit $88,489.00
Matching funds required from the City Attorney's general fund budget are $29,496.00.

To authorize the acceptance and appropriation of a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, in the total amount of $88,489.00 for the continued funding of the Telecommunications Harassment Investigative Unit, to authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the acceptance of this grant in the amount of $29,496.00 and to declare an emergency.

WHEREAS, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, a grant in the amount of $88,489.00 for Grant No. 2003-DG-E-B515 Telecommunications Harassment Investigative Unit for the year 2004; and
WHEREAS, the acceptance of this grant requires that the City Attorney supply matching funds in the amount of $29,496.00; and
