Explanation

BACKGROUND: The Columbus Health Department has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $750,000 in grant money to fund the Healthy Start grant program.

The Healthy Start grant program enables the Columbus Health Department to conduct care coordination services in the project area neighborhoods of South Linden, the Near South, and the Near East, focusing primarily on perinatal and infant clients and their families. The goal of the program is to improve the health system for women and children in partnership with Neighborhood House , Southside Settlement House, and the Council on Healthy Mothers and Babies.

This grant is for the period June 1, 2005 through May 31, 2006.

Emergency action is requested to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.

FISCAL IMPACT: This program is entirely funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and does not generate revenue or require a City match.
