To recognize the Columbus Department of Recreation and Parks' Cultural Arts Center on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.


Body

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Center is the most unique public arts program in central Ohio where the novice to advanced adult art enthusiast gets to explore the incredible world of visual art; and

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Center provides an outlet for one to express ideas, enhance creativity, work with their hands and explore their artistic potential as well as gain inspiration from others, participate in passionate discussions, work alongside accomplished artists and venture into new art learning; and

WHEREAS, due to incredible community support for and involvement in the original Recreation and Parks Department adult arts program located in a restored firehouse on Oak Street, the Cultural Arts Center was created on June 11, 1978 through an official dedication after extensive renovations of the Ohio Arsenal Building at 139 West Main Street; and

WHEREAS, on average, participants turn in 3500 registrations for classes each year, as well as additional participation in weekly Conversations and Coffee, gallery visitors, gift shop visitors-overall, several thousands of people visit and enjoy the Cultural Arts Center every year; and

WHEREAS, every year, the Cultural Arts Center is home to festivals, programs, special events, exhibits, conferences, gallery openings, workshops, Conversations and Coffee programs, and gift shops, it also plans art trips throughout the US and abroad; and

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Center will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on Friday November 14th from 5:30 to 9 pm with a major open house event with each studio hosting its own demonstrations and sales, live and silent auctions, entertainment, and refreshments; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
