To congratulate Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin as the 2022 Community Service Award recipient.

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised on the south side of Columbus, Council President Shannon Hardin is committed to building an equitable future that works for every resident in our city; and
WHEREAS, As the co-chair of the Insight2050 Corridor Concepts Initiative, the Council President led a collaborative effort to analyze what focusing new housing and business growth along high-capacity transit corridors could mean for our region’s economy, health and environment; and
WHEREAS, Council President serves on the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, the Expo 2050 Task Force, as the Transit Committee Co-Chair for the National League of Cities, and is a member of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials and the Columbus Chapter of the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, Council President Hardin earned his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, and is a proud member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That we hereby congratulate Council President Shannon G. Hardin as the 2022 Community Service Award recipient.
