To honor the 125th anniversary of the Humane Society of Columbus, currently known as the Capital Area Humane Society.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, the Humane Society of Columbus was incorporated on December 4, 1883 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year; and
 
WHEREAS, the name was changed on September 25, 1973 from the Humane Society of Columbus to the Capital Area Humane Society; and
 
WHEREAS, the Capital Area Humane Society continues its original mission to protect animals, prevent cruelties and bring empathy to society through teaching and advocating kindness for all life; and
 
WHEREAS, the Capital Area Humane Society currently has a staff of 45 employees and approximately 750 volunteers who gave 46,000 hours of service in 2006 and in 2007 provided a caring harbor for nearly 14,000 animals and adopted 3,300 animals into new, loving homes;  and
 
WHEREAS, along with providing shelter to thousands of animals each year, the Humane Society also responds to reports of animal cruelty, places adoptable animals in loving homes, and provides animal-assisted therapy to children and seniors at area hospitals and retirement homes; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize the Capital Area Humane Society for 125 years of service to our community.
