Explanation

Background: This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director to modify and increase a construction contract for the Transportation Division with Miller Pavement Maintenance, Inc. for the Spring Resurfacing 2001 project in the amount of $1,074.29. The project involved the resurfacing of 48 streets throughout the city. The project included the construction of curbs, pavement renovations and resurfacing. The curb ramps constructed on these streets were a part of a separate contract. This contract is being modified to provide for additional quantities needed to complete the construction and to pay for the administrative costs associated with a claim by the contractor. The additional work was performed at the request of the Transportation Division. Prices were obtained by negotiations with Miller Pavement Maintenance, Inc. using existing unit prices for items already bid and past project prices for new items. The claim was as a result of negotiations between the administration and the contractor. This is the only modification to this project.

The contractor is Miller Pavement Maintenance, Inc. Their contract compliance number is 31-0831781, expiration date 11/12/2004.

Emergency action is requested for the immediate execution of the construction modification for the earliest possible completion of the improvement and to pay the final cost associated with this project.

Fiscal Impact: The original contract amount for this project is $1,116,314.19. The total amount for all modifications is $1,074.29. The total contract amount including modifications for this project is $1,117,388.48. Funds are available in the Transportation Division's 1995, 1999 Voted Streets and Highways Fund for this modification.
