Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Columbus Division of Fire received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant award from FEMA to purchase firefighting equipment and related supplies. This ordinance authorizes acceptance of the grant award and the appropriation of funds within the General Government Grant Fund.
The Division of Fire was awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA in August of 2010. The Division of Fire has been approved to purchase foam trailers, firefighting foam, hose, nozzles and other related equipment via this grant award. These purchases will allow the Fire Division to standardize nozzles across all 34 engine companies, replace outdated hoses with new technology and replace four foam engines that are over 20 years old with four foam attack and supply trailers.
FISCAL IMPACT: The amount of the grant is $812,639.00; matching funds of $203,159.00 are required for the grant and will come from existing capital funds.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION: Emergency action is requested to provide immediate funding for bids that have been solicited and are pending award.
