To honor Commissioner Charles Thompkins and to commemorate the renaming of Thornwood Commons to “Thompkins Village” in his honor.

WHEREAS, Commissioner Charles Thompkins has devoted more than 30 years to advancing housing equity, community development, and economic justice for the residents of Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Commissioner Thompkins has served as a trailblazer in public service, holding leadership roles that shaped housing policy, uplifted underserved communities, and expanded access to affordable housing across the region; and
WHEREAS, as a founding board member and the longest-serving Director at Homeport, Commissioner Thompkins’ vision and leadership have helped the organization provide safe, affordable homes for thousands of families, seniors, and individuals throughout Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompkins has championed transformative community development projects, including the Thornwood Commons development, which has provided much-needed housing opportunities to residents in northeast Columbus; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his enduring impact and lifetime of service, Thornwood Commons is being renamed to “Thompkins Village,” a lasting tribute to his contributions, values, and leadership in building thriving communities; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompkins' legacy continues to inspire a new generation of advocates and leaders who strive for equity, dignity, and opportunity for all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor and commend Commissioner Charles Thompkins for his extraordinary contributions to public service, and community development, and celebrates the renaming of Thornwood Commons to Thompkins Village as a recognition of his impact on the City of Columbus and its residents.
