Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Mayor's Office of Education to enter into contract with various community organizations. These organizations will provide After School programming from February 4 to June 15, 2008. Our programs serve Columbus Public School students from low and moderate income families. Programming is designed to give children a strong sense of self worth, academic ability and community responsibility.
FISCAL IMPACT: Dollars have been allocated in the 2008 General Fund budget in the amount of $370,000.00 for After School programming for the entire year. In 2008 we will have 2 sets of contracts. The first set will be from February to June. The second set will be from September to December 2008.

To authorize the Director of the Mayor's Office of Education to enter into contract with the listed community agencies to provide After School programming services; to authorize the expenditure of $157,773 from the General Fund and to declare an emergency. ($157,773.00)

WHEREAS, the Director of the Office of Education desires to enter into contracts with various community organizations; and

WHEREAS, it is important to provide youth programming opportunities with high standards including components such as academic assistance, enrichment activities, prevention units, recreation and socialization, strong family involvement and nutritious food service; and.
