Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Ohio Department of Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $9,000.00 in grant money to fund the COVID-19 Funding for Youth Suicide Prevention grant program, for the period July 15, 2020-June 30, 2021.

The Ohio Department of Health is offering supplemental funding to current Child Injury (IC) grantees to expand current youth suicide prevention activities to include remote delivery due to COVID-19. The IC grantee who currently administers the Child Injury Action Group and oversees the Youth Suicide Prevention coalition will also be awarded funding to complete an environmental scan of both youth suicide and primary ACEs prevention activities in Ohio and then utilize this information to complete a statewide youth suicide prevention strategic plan, which is to include at least one statewide activity to be implemented by June 30, 2021.

This ordinance is submitted as an emergency to continue the support of all activities for the COVID-19 Funding for Youth Suicide Prevention grant program.

FISCAL IMPACT: The COVID-19 Funding for Youth Suicide Prevention grant program is entirely funded by the grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Ohio Department of Health and does not generate revenue or require a City Match.
