Explanation

Background: This ordinance authorizes the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to enter into an advanced-pay grant agreement for $25,000.00 with Freedom Equity, Inc., a local registered non-profit organization.

The purpose of this funding request is to empower the non-profit organization to expand its capacity, strengthen its technical infrastructure, and amplify the impact of entrepreneurship in key communities across the City of Columbus. This critical support will enable organizations to operate more efficiently, deliver targeted technical assistance to community partners, and scale the city’s small business ecosystem. Through this investment, the organization will be better equipped to fulfill its mission and achieve sustainable, community-centered outcomes.

The City’s support of the Freedom Equity, Inc may support personnel, services, and supplies costs. No grant funds will be used for the purchase of any food or beverages. The City’s support in advance is necessary in order for operations to continue uninterrupted.

Fiscal Impact: This ordinance authorizes the transfer and expenditure of $25,000.00 within the General Fund for this agreement. Funding for this agreement is available in the General Fund ($10,000.00) and in the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund ($15,000.00).


Emergency Designation: Emergency action is requested to ensure that funding can be disbursed as soon as possible to ensure no disruption to operations for this non-profit organization.
