Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Finance and Management Director to enter into contract for the Office of Construction Management with Gutknecht Construction Company, Inc., for the construction of the West Side Family Health Center, to be located in the vicinity of 2300 West Broad Street. This project will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified building, in compliance with the Mayor's Get Green Columbus initiative. LEED is administered by the United States Green Building Council, and is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED components in this project will include highly efficient lighting, energy efficient windows that also allow more natural light into the building, energy efficient HVAC systems, the use of recycled buildings materials, LEED certified insulation for energy efficiency, and a bioswale that will keep approximately 90% of storm water on the site. LEED Silver is a higher ranking than the basic LEED Certified ranking. This construction will also include major renovations of the site's main electric power distribution.
