To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Lelia Elisabeth Cady, 1959-2026

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Lelia Elisabeth Cady was born on August 7th, 1959, to Richard and Joan Cady and passed away on June 11th, 2026; and

 

WHEREAS, the members of Columbus City Council extend this resolution of expression to honor the extraordinary life, legacy of public service, and enduring contributions of Lelia Cady; and

 

WHEREAS, Lelia was passionate about women’s rights, environmental sustainability, the arts, and community engagement, dedicating her life to making Columbus a more compassionate, creative, and vibrant city; and

 

WHEREAS, Lelia devoted her professional life to serving others, including as a court-appointed victim advocate in domestic violence cases and as a legislative aide to former Columbus City Councilmember Maryellen O’Shaughnessy. She later combined her commitment to sustainability and entrepreneurship by founding a food scrap composting business in Central Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, through her service to Columbus City Council and throughout her career, Lelia exemplified the ideals of public service, working tirelessly to improve the lives of Columbus residents and strengthen the fabric of our community; and

 

WHEREAS, Lelia's compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to serving others left a lasting mark on the City of Columbus and on all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lelia Elisabeth Cady, including her sister, Jennifer; her brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Nancy Cady; and the countless friends, former colleagues, and loved ones across Columbus and beyond whose lives she touched; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Leila Elisabeth Cady.
