To Recognize Wexner Center Resident Artist Kerry James Marshall for his Cross-Cultural Gallery Exhibit and Performance Project.

WHEREAS, Kerry James Marshall is an African-American visual artist based in Chicago who is internationally renowned and very critically acclaimed.; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall has been working with local teens over the course of several months to produce a Japanese bunraku puppet production, as well as the resulting exhibition in the Wexner Galleries; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall's current exhibit at the Wexner Center is an extension of his Rythm Mastr series, an expansive sequence of narrative works that tells a tale of urban life featuring superheroes inspired by African archetypes and African American cultural life; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall's past work has addressed urban housing projects in Chicago, his perspectives on African American identity issues, and the state of education and youth culture in America; and now, therefore
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall will be coming to Columbus to hold a talk on Tuesday, February 26 as part of Ohio State's President and Provost's 2007-08 Diversity Lecture and Cultural Arts Series; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That the Columbus City Council recognizes Kerry James Marshall and his work through the Wexner Center Residency Award project.
