To Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc

WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community; and,

WHEREAS, Twenty-two Howard University collegiate women founded Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on January 13, 1913, these visionary women aspired to support academic achievement and aid the underprivileged by organizing under the principles of sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action. The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. undertook their first public act on March 3, 1913, when they marched in the famous Women's Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.; and,

WHEREAS, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter is of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to primarily serving the African-American community within Columbus and Franklin County; and,

WHEREAS, the major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development; Educational Development; International Awareness and Involvement; Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement. Keeping in pace with the organization’s goals, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter has provided and collaborated with numerous educational and enriching programs for residents of Columbus at large, such as the YWCA Family Center Day of Service, EmpowerHer Conference for Women and Girls, World AIDS Day, Delta Days at the State Capitol, UpliftHer, Founders Day Luncheons and have awarded thousands of scholarship dollars to high school seniors who have graduated from Columbus City Schools; and,

WHEREAS, on May 20, 2024, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter is celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the chartering of its chapter formerly known as the Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter. They are honoring the 23 visionary charter member...
