Explanation

Background: This legislation is to modify and increase the construction contract with Columbus Asphalt Paving, Inc. (contract compliance #31-0857095) for the Doren Avenue project in an amount up to $21,401.11 and $15,000.00 for inspection. The project limits are from Belvidere Avenue to Columbian Avenue. This plan details the full reconstruction of Doren Avenue including sidewalks and lighting. This contract is being modified to pay for additional work required to treat sub grade material. In addition, the City Forester required additional trees be removed - some of which were very large and very close to houses. Prices already established in the contract were used for the additional work.

Emergency action is requested for immediate modification of the construction contract so that work may proceed on the construction project.

Fiscal Impact: The original contract amount for Doren Avenue was $823,030.08. This modification is for $21,401.11. The total contract amount including all modifications is $844,431.19. The Transportation Division budgeted $6.3 million for Urban Infrastructure (UIRF) in the 2004 Capital Improvements Budget (CIB). All but approximately $132,000.00 remains in cash for UIRF projects. This ordinance authorizes an expenditure of $36,401.11 for the contract modification and construction inspection.
