Title
To congratulate Mary Barber, recipient of the 2006 Scouting Award, recognizing outstanding volunteer service to the Columbus community.
Body
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, the Scouting Award is a local recognition presented to a male or female union member for outstanding service to youth through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.; and
WHEREAS, this year's recipient, Mary Barber, serves her community as a life-time member of the Girl Scouts; co-leader of Girl Scout Troop 1628 for twelve years; Day Camp director at Sugarbush Day Camp for four years; has been a council trainer in safety and leadership since 1990; serves on the Destinations Committee; has received numerous recognitions including: Outstanding Leader, Outstanding Volunteer, Leadership Development Pin, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge and Thanks 2 Badge; and has been nominated for a Disney Teacher Award as a seventh and eighth grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry Teacher for the Columbus Public Schools; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2006 Scouting Award, Mary Barber, whose leadership and voluntary commitment through the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and the labor movement's community services programs have made a significant contribution to the City of Columbus.
