To Honor and Recognize April as Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30th, 2026, as International Jazz Day

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, A Tribe for Jazz is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the legacy and advance the future of jazz through visual storytelling, live and virtual performance, education, and community engagement; and,

 

WHEREAS, A Tribe for Jazz created the Jazz Lab, helping students build confidence, experimentation with cutting-edge tools, and practiced essential 21st-century skills like collaboration, adaptability, and improvisation; and,

 

WHEREAS, A Tribe for Jazz led a bold collaboration that united 15 youth camps, 10 educational nonprofit partners, and dozens of STEAM professionals, all coming together to serve nearly 800 historically underserved youth across Central Ohio; and,

 

WHEREAS, A Tribe for Jazz holds The Exploration Workshop, a half to full day workshop designed for adults, blending Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) with a unique multidisciplinary approach; and,

 

WHEREAS, A Tribe for Jazz hosts many Columbus based events and has many strategic and community partners, such as Columbus City Schools, Columbus Museum of Art, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Ohio, and many more; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council hereby honors and recognizes April as Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30th, 2026, as International Jazz Day
