2004 Title 2 Project SMART Grant

Explanation

This ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit. These funds shall be used to provide for continued funding for Project SMART within the City Attorney's Diversion Program. Project SMART is a program designed to reduce truancy and absenteeism by instituting mediation programs in Columbus Public elementary and middle schools. It is a cooperative effort between the City Attorney's Office and the Columbus Public Schools.

The Grant award is as follows:

To authorize the acceptance and appropriation of a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, in the total amount of $35,000.00 for the continued funding of the Project SMART program and to declare an emergency.

Body

WHEREAS, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, a grant in the amount of $35,000.00 for Grant No. 2003-JJ-DP2-0209 Title 2 Project SMART for the year 2004; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the daily operation of the City Attorney's Office in that it is necessary to immediately accept and appropriate the grant in order that the services supported may continue uninterrupted; now, therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, OHIO

Section 1. That the City Attorney is hereby authorized to accept a grant award from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit in the amount of $35,000.00 for the Project SMART program.
