To Recognize and Celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Greater South East Area Commission and its Contributions to the City of Columbus.
Body
WHEREAS, the Greater South East Area Commission was founded in 2015, following the hard work of the Greater South East Area Task Force, and has gone on to hold over fifty public meetings; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, ten members from its community civic associations and neighborhood block watches banded together to create the Greater South East Area Task Force due to rising concerns over the continuous closing of businesses, increase in crime, job loss, and number of abandoned and vacant homes due to the housing market crash; and
WHEREAS, in that time the Greater South East Area Commission has completed an area plan, voted on rezonings and applications for BZA, demolitions, and graphics, coordinated good neighbor agreements, held Shred Day events, and participated in National Night Out; and
WHEREAS, the Greater South East Area Commission works with local businesses to identify their needs to administer a Shop Local campaign; and
WHEREAS, the Greater South East Area Commission is driven by a single goal - to do their part in making the community a better place for all with community input as well as collaboration between commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the Greater South East Area Commission continues to serve businesses, neighborhoods and residents through its support of initiatives that affect positive and everlasting change in their community; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does recognize and celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Greater South East Area Commission and their contribution to the City of Columbus.
