To Recognize and Celebrate the Third Saturday of January as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Vision Day

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church African American Heritage Institute Ministry Mission is to provide Christian disciples and the community with opportunities to examine and learn how past and present events continue to shape lived experiences, within an Africentric Christian context; and

 

WHEREAS, the African American Heritage Institute Ministry of Mt. Olivet aspires to cultivate, foster, influence, inspire, encourage, and promote the personal and spiritual growth of the faith community, by gaining greater understanding of African and American Heritage; and

WHEREAS, the African American Heritage Institute Ministry of Mt. Olivet recognizes and reveres the annual national holiday, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and acknowledges the legacy of Vision that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. left to be fulfilled; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Tennant, a Christian man of faith, member of New Salem Baptist Church, and an educator of more than 40 years, acted on his Vision for African and Black history to be taught in the Columbus school system; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Tennant’s advocacy and imagination caused the state-of-the-art Africentric design school known as The Columbus Africentric Early College to be built in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Tennant, the founder and visionary of The Columbus Africentric Early College for students in grades K-12 has empowered countless Nubians to become prolific leaders and activists in Columbus and across the country; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council Recognizes and Celebrates the Third Saturday of January as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Vision Day.
