To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of The Honorable Robert N. Shamansky, and to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing Thursday, August 11, 2011.
Body
WHEREAS, The Hon. Robert N. Shamansky was born on Drexel Avenue on April 18, 1927, to Sarah and Harry Shamansky; and

WHEREAS, Bob was a proud graduate of Bexley High School, The Ohio State University, and Harvard Law School, and he served our nation with distinction in the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Shamansky made his first run for the United States Congress in 1966, and would win election to the House of Representatives in 1980; and

WHEREAS, as a member of Congress, Bob practiced the values - compassion, integrity, service, and pragmatism - that would become the hallmarks of his life in and out of public service; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Shamansky was an accomplished lawyer, world traveler, and philanthropist who was known to friends, colleagues, and constituents for his remarkable intellect and the great pride he took in serving his community; and

WHEREAS, in his later years, Bob was an iconic figure in his beloved German Village, and never more so than when he made his final run for Congress in 2006, more than twenty years after his term in office ended; and

WHEREAS, throughout his eighty-four extraordinary years of life, Rep. Shamansky was a leader and role model for countless central Ohioans, and he will no doubt continue to serve in this capacity for many years to come; and

WHEREAS, Bob will always be remembered with profound affection by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many community members whose lives he touched; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of The Honorable Robert N. Shamansky, and extends our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing Thursday, August 1...
