Explanation
Background: This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with the Columbus Music Commission in support of their Greater Columbus Music Economic Impact Study project.

The mission of the Columbus Music Commission is to nurture a community in which people can prosper in the business of music while contributing to Columbus’ overall cultural and economic growth.

This grant will support an economic impact study on music and related entertainment in the Columbus area. The study will include a “music census” to assess the scope, nature, and diversity within the musical community in Columbus. Studying the economic impact of the music industry will provide data and narrative that will result in garnering greater awareness and investment for supporting all members of the music/arts communities, while creating jobs in the field.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Job Growth subfund.

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council seeks to uplift the diverse artists and small businesses in the Columbus community, including in the music industry; and

WHEREAS, an economic impact study on the Greater Columbus music industry will lend itself to better informing small business support and economic development strategy; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Columbus Music Commission is to nurture a community in which people can prosper in the business of music while contributing to Columbus’ overall cultural and economic growth; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to authorize the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with the Columbus Music Commission in support of an economic impact study on the music industry in Columbus; and NOW, THEREFORE,
