To celebrate the 2026 Pride Month and Annual Pride Festival and March, “Until We’re All Free”

WHEREAS, June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, during which we recognize the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City as a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement and honor activists such as transgender advocates Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who according to the (Library of Congress), played a critical role in the uprising and subsequent movement; and
WHEREAS, each year, Columbus and cities around the world host annual Pride Marches and festivals to commemorate liberation for LGBTQ+ individuals; and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Columbus, Inc. started hosting its annual Pride March and Festival in 1981, which typically generates over 700,000 visitors to Columbus and Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Pride Month and annual Pride Marches are celebrations of equality and the commitment to uplifting LGBTQ+ people; and
WHEREAS, Columbus’s 2026 Pride March and Festival, “Until We’re All Free,” is a celebration of LGBTQ+ individuals and calls attention to the shared responsibility to stand together across individual differences; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby celebrates the 2026 LGBTQ+ Pride Month and the 2026 Stonewall Columbus Pride March as these events recognize Columbus’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and uplifting LGBTQ+ identities within the community.
