To recognize and celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, in 2016, Columbus City Council officially adopted the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity and food system sustainability within the City and surrounding communities; and

 

WHEREAS, the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan was conceived as part of a partnership between Columbus City Council, Columbus Public Health, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Franklin County Economic Development & Planning, and non-profit organization Local Matters; and 

 

WHEREAS, the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan provides a framework of common goals and actions that serve to unify residents, schools, community organizations, businesses, and local government in supporting a healthy, strong, and resilient local food system; and

 

WHEREAS, the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan consists of four main goals:

 

- To enhance coordination and communication among existing food resources and agencies

 

- To improve access to and education about healthy food, affordable food, and local food

 

- To increase the role of food in economic development

 

- To prevent food-related waste; and

 

WHEREAS, in honor of the 10-year anniversary of the Columbus & Franklin County Local Food Action Plan, this Council reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all people have access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food; and
