To honor Mr. Gedion Nyanhongo for his artwork and to welcome him to the City of Columbus.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gedion Nyanhongo is a nationally renowned sculptural artist from the Harare township of Chitungwiza in Zimbabwe; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nyanhongo has been critically acclaimed for his art-his stone sculptures praised for their global consciousness and depiction of the human condition; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nyanhongo will be in Columbus from October 31st to November 15th as an artist in residence at Indianola K-8 School; and
WHEREAS, through his involvement at Indianola Middle School, and in partnership with other artists and individuals, Mr. Nyanhongo has established the Sahwira Fund, a non-profit public charity working in partnership with grassroots organizations in Africa to address the critical needs of children orphaned by AIDS; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nyanhongo has dedicated his life to art, and is a shining example of how one person's passion can translate into education and charity across the world; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That the Columbus City Council welcomes Mr. Gedion Nyanhongo recognizes him for his monumental contributions to the arts, education, and children worldwide.
