To Recognize, Honor, and Celebrate Ann B. Walker on her 99th Birthday

WHEREAS, Ann B Walker is a Columbus native, born November 1, 1923; and
WHEREAS, Ann is a trailblazing pioneer, becoming the first African-American to report on Columbus City Hall, the first woman to cover the Ohio legislature and join the management team at WLWC-TV (now NBC4), and the first Black woman from Franklin County to receive a White House appointment and serve on the board of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium; and
WHEREAS, Ann is enshrined in the Columbus Hall of Fame, the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame, and the Long Street Cultural Wall; and
WHEREAS, Countless people have been inspired by Ann, whose efforts to give back to the community include mentorship, an internship program at Channel 4, and the creation of the Linwood B. Walker Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, Ann’s humility, compassion, and tireless activism have paved the way for future generations and greatly enriched the City of Columbus; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council recognizes, honors, and celebrates Ann B. Walker on her 99th Birthday
