Explanation

Background

Section 2.4 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, dated December 9, 2023 through December 8, 2026, requires that any modifications to the Agreement be agreed to by the parties in writing. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) #2026-02 temporarily amends Article 22 of the Agreement by providing pay at double the straight time hourly rate for Police Officers, Police Sergeants, and Police Lieutenants who work voluntary scheduled overtime posted as 2026 City Special Operation beginning September 8, 2026 at 6:30am and lasting until January 1, 2027 at 6:30am.

The passage of this ordinance indicates City Council’s approval of MOU #2026-02, a copy of which is attached hereto.

Emergency Designation: Emergency action is recommended to allow for expedient implementation in order to adequately staff the City Special Operation.

Fiscal Impact: None.
