To Recognize and celebrate July 31st as Equality Across Ohio Day

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) Americans, has for over four decades been a powerful voice for justice, inclusion, and dignity; and

WHEREAS, through its relentless advocacy, public education campaigns, and coalition-building efforts, the Human Rights Campaign has made historic strides toward securing full equality under the law for LGBTQ+ individuals, while standing in unwavering solidarity with other marginalized communities in the pursuit of fairness, dignity, and justice; and

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Campaign’s American Dreams Tour brings together diverse voices from across the country to uplift stories of resilience, celebrate progress, and mobilize communities in the ongoing fight for civil rights and fundamental freedoms; and

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus has long demonstrated leadership in LGBTQ+ inclusion, from being one of the first cities in Ohio to pass comprehensive non-discrimination ordinances, to earning a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index for multiple consecutive years, and being home to one of the Midwest’s largest Pride celebrations; and

WHEREAS, Columbus proudly supports a thriving LGBTQ+ community, champions inclusive policies, and celebrates the many contributions of LGBTQ+ residents, businesses, and organizations that strengthen the fabric of our city; and

WHEREAS, , the City of Columbus embraces the values of equality, inclusion, and human dignity, and stands proudly in support of efforts to ensure that all people-regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, faith, or background-can thrive in safety, visibility, and equity;

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That the City of Columbus hereby recognizes and celebrates July 31st as Equal...
